08 Mar Plants for Smaller Indoor Spaces
If you’re living in a smaller space such as a tiny home or an apartment or condo, it’s still important to make it your own in every way that you can. An undecorated space with minimal plant life is always going to come across as impersonal. Plants are a great way to make your place more welcoming.
Adding life to your smaller indoor place is an easy and budget-friendly way to enliven your living space. Below, The Green Goddess goes over a few plants to incorporate into your decor without making your living space feel cramped or crowded.
Birkin Philodendron
Get some Birkin workin’ in your living space. The Birkin Philodendron, a newer variety of the traditional Philodendron, has dark, verdant leaves variegated with creamy-white pinstripes to boot. These plants grow easily in smaller spaces and thrive in natural or even artificial light. These plants are resilient and forgiving, even if you get so busy that you forget to water them every once in a while.
Chinese Evergreen
Aglaonema is a genus of flowering plants that are native to tropical and the more subtropical regions of the world, places like New Guinea and Asia. These are most commonly referred to as Chinese evergreens.
Chinese evergreen makes great additions to apartments, condominiums, studios, and other smaller living spaces due to their durability. They hold up well and won’t freak out if you forget to water. You might purchase a Chinese evergreen that starts smaller than your tabletop and grows into your featured floor plant. It’s a perfect way to give any living space a touch of elegance and beauty.
ZZ Plants
Zamioculcas Zamiifolia (commonly known as ZZ Plants) are houseplants that are characteristically resilient and easy to care for. ZZ plants are commonly seen growing in offices and homes.
These plants are easy to keep alive and make formidable air purifiers. ZZ plants thrive in low to bright, indirect light. They only have to be watered when the soil dries out, so you can keep a busy schedule and not feel like you’re neglecting these little things.
Cast Iron Plants
Get a Cast Iron plant to go along with that cast iron skillet. True to its name, Cast Iron plants are more or less indestructible. They can and even thrive with next to zero light. These plants are also lush and leafy without getting too busy, which means they won’t end up cramping your style too much. If you live in a smaller space that you want to maximize, a Cast Iron plant might be your best new friend.
